Sl500 to sl55 super charger help/info

I recently got a 2004 sl500 and I would like to supercharge it like a sl55. I have searched the forum for info and I see most say just trade it in on a sl55 but I would like to keep my insurance rates down. and I only paid 6k for the car cause I got it at credit union before it went to auction after being repo'd for a customer. since my wife is the branch manager we just had to pay the balance owed

I have a chance to buy a amg super charger for cheap just want to know what all I need to make it work and be reliable before I start buying parts and send it to the tuning shop here in Houston.

I already have the amg brakes coming and ordering a black series conversion next week. Just want a tad bit more power to go with the looks of the car

Any help you guys can offer would be awesome and a great help. I don't want to go to the tuning shop here and get rail roaded if you know what I mean.

If you do decided to add the super charger, I've heard people that do a supercharged 500 that want power, slap a Kleeman supercharger on it, I mean if you want to be unique you can slap a Weistec supercharger, but it's prob gonna require some more work but it has been done to NA 500 and 55 motors

2005 C55 AMG - 2018 340i - 2006 SL55 AMG - Sold
Word.

Option 1: Enjoy your SL500 (you got a great deal on it)

Option 2: Sell the SL500 and buy an SL55.

Really you are in a great position. Enjoy your SL500 UNTIL you can find a reasonably priced SL55 you like. Then make the switch.

Good post lukasbmw
I probably will wait and just get a Sl55 and keep them both or just sale the sl500 . Just slowed up my plans to get this wide body kit. My son and I were gonna build it up as a project before he goes to college in 2 years. I can get a used kleeman setup and some headers for 5500 bucks ...
I didn't want the car to be blazing fast . Just fast enough to back up the looks :-)
But I will just enjoy this as much as I can in the meantime.

I'm sure plenty can chime in and agree on my opinion here. You can mod almost any engine, that's not the issue, the issue is making it RELIABLE. With that being said, most people don't realize this, but the SL500 and the SL55 are two totally different cars. Sure they look similar, and share most of the same components, but the SL55 just uses the SL500 frame as a base or starting point, mostly everything else from suspension to power train is upgraded to support all the extra torque and power that's coming from the supercharge engine. Sure you can add a supercharger on an SL500, but before you know it you'll be breaking suspension, power train and other parts if you don't upgrade those along with adding the supercharger. My advice to you, Just like LukasBMW said, Keep it and enjoy paying next to nothing for a piece of art (which is a steal and I would do the same), or turn it around and sell it to make a profit that you can roll over and throw into purchasing an SL55 which has all the upgraded components, or last but not least: do a complete job and upgrade the entire car to match all the items you'll need to make it as reliable or better then the SL55 (keep in mind you'll be spending more then what the current market price is for the SL55). Latter is definitely not a good option . Enjoy the beauty you bought for next to nothing, I would . Think about it, '04 SL500 for $5k when the market for such a vehicle is going for somewhere in the $20,000's, sweeeet!
