Oil Consumption Again

Hello Guys,

I am aware of getting into engine work, as it is very costly. My car has consumed 2L per 400 KM, yes 400 KM.

I was first using 5W40, the workshop suggested to try 10W40, however nothing has changed, oil is being consumed in the engine, there are no leaks, and I never have seen smoke running out of the exhaust.

Can you please guide me if there is a better oil to use for my engine? 15W40? 10W60?

Thanks buddies

We may be in the same boat....I don't use that much oil, maybe 1-2 liters per 5000km..
There's no visible smoke, but if I start the car cold, move it (say, out of the garage) a short distance so it doesn't heat up..Upon re-start she will cough out a puff of blue. I'm thinking valve guides and seals.
I'm hesitant too about ripping in to the motor, but I love the car and I know that day is fast approaching...

Oil consumption in that amount can’t be fixed whit change of type of oil … the correct oil will be the Mobil 0-40 and that’s thin …….

……. and yes - the M113 is something that needs to be serviced and cared for - top engines don't last whiteout serious maintains!

Agreed! I have close to stage III mods, nearly 100,000 miles on the motor and still burn less than a quart of oil between changes. I have always run MB recommended Mobile-1 0-40.

I have read a thread on the forum that when hard driving conditions it is preferred to use 5W50 Super synthetic oil.

Here in Lebanon, there are too much traffic jams, and I drive it really hard. I don't know if this has a thing to do with the oil loss, huge oil loss.

Today I have been on a sports cars cruise, I have noticed oil under the car, after almost 10 miles, the OIL LEVEL RED LIGHT went on the instrument cluster, I had to drive it 1 KM to the workshop with the red light on.

I hope this is something external not something with the headgasket or a big deal.

if you dont find a leak under the car, remove all 16 spark plugs and inspect them

Car has 59K and oil has been changed every 5K.

At first, you said it didn't leak at all, then it's starting to leak, then the leak is getting worse? It sounds like you have a leak that is starting leak faster...stop driving and start checking for leaks.....

Yes ttboost, I already parked the car yesterday, and today it will get inspected by the workshop, will let you know what exactly happens.

Hopefully its not a big deal.

The oil cooling hose was leaking too much oil, when we drained the remaining oil today, it only drained 2 Liters! Thats too bad.

But what was worse is that the oil has leaked into the fan assembly. And the fan has stopped. So I'm changing it soon. Do you have any idea if the fan motor of the C-class or any other Mercedes class fits the fan of the SL55?

2 liters is very little - I think there should be 8 liters ...... I really hope your engine have taken any damage by this ..... oil is a necessity ......

It depends a lot …… what year is your car … I will think it’s only the “S” (220) and the “CL” (215) that have the same blower (A2205000293)

@amok55, I had to drive it almost a 1/2 mile with the red light "OIL LEVEL" on. The engine was still fine, thanks god.

My SL55 AMG, was produced in 12/2002. I guess this is the right FAN Number that you provided above. I'll try to find a fan at a good price, or check if there's any repair possible.
