Hello guys,
my 55 engine is almost done, with an oil consumption of 4 Liters for every 1000 KM, too much smoke coming out of the exhaust. I had been looking for an engine, and someone offered the 65 engine V12 Biturbo for the same price of the 55 Kompressor engine. I was wondering if the differential gear, and the transmission of the SL65 are the same like the SL55? and if anyone knows what are the parts that need to be replaced?
Thanks for the help

I would think it would be different. You can probably find a 600 v12 with trans for less money.

Why not just get the engine rebuilt? Get the heads honed and new piston rings with new valve seals. The engine will be good as new.

Swap in a used engine, install, sell car, then buy SL65. It will be much cheaper in the long run than trying to get the engine rebuilt and or some kind of Franken car.

tot different Transmission, rear differential gears, ecu/tcu different exhaust ie cats & down pipes from the turbos etc etc it'd be a nightmare swap... Could it be done? Certainly, they've shoehorned the 65 engine into everything from E55 to SLK55 etc but $$$ it aint cheap & will be an extremely time consuming endeavor if done correcctly...
Cheaper/easier to just buy a same yr SL65 they're very affordable these days..& just sell the SL55..
