SL55 Tire pressure monitors

I have a 2003 SL55 and all of the TPM sensors are dead . How do I determine the frequency of the sensor and how do I initialize the system

you buy the ones for your car, they will be the right ones. Try ebay or any other MB parts store. After you have the car ready, you reset the TPMS on the screen , all the pressures will go _ and drive it 5 miles, they will all come on

Good info. Question: When installing aftermarket wheels is it mandatory to reinstall the sensors onto the new wheels?

My 2005 SL55 doesn't have a visible TPM option? Is that an option that can be turned on with Star? Also a MB mechanic mentioned that the monitoring option on the sl55 only tells you that a tire is low, but not which tire. Can someone elaborate on this?

it will tell you which one is low and it will also give you a read out of what every PSI is in each tire at any time. When you initiate them you need to make sure they are pressured to the exact correct pressure, b/c this is where the system will then baseline pressure changes from. You then have to drive around 10-15 minutes without stopping. I have an extra brand new set of pressure sensors. PM me if interested. I was going to get a 2nd set of wheels, but I'm now not going to.

They tend to be more trouble than they are worth. I have aftermarket wheels and tried to run them and just got tired of them going out so I disabled them via STAR.

If they are dead, they need to be replaced. You can either go to the dealer and pay $300-$400/sensor, or Discount tire did mine for less than $100 per.

I would rather have everything working as it should, than just say F it.

I'm contemplating doing this. How have the sensors been working? Any issues? What was the total cost from Discount Tire including mounting and balancing?

they cost about $75 per wheel at tire shops and they should install and program it for you, just like OEM

Great. Thanks. As a side note, damn I love this car. It definitely puts the power down!

Anyone know if the TPMS can be added to a non TPMS car?

I think my car has just about every option but the TPMS. To make matters worse, the 65 has no spare. I would be very interested in adding a system.

I have an extra set of brand new sensors that I bought when I thought I was going to buy a 2nd set of wheels that I'd sell cheap if anyone is wanting a set.
