Any heat soak issues with 2013 SL63?
Hi, I'm a long time forum member but have been away for a long time. I just put a deposit down on a 2013 SL63 AMG with performance package and supposed RennTech ECU tune. Any need for additional cooling? Not very familiar with the V8 Biturbo engine. I had a 2005 CL65 that needed larger intercoolers and pump because the IAT were outrageously high. Has this been re-engineered better with the 5.5L V8 Biturbo. Any input would be appreciated. Thank in advance!

first you should contact renntech and find out if the car does have their ecu.
they keep records of that stuff. next if it does or doesnt have it, the price should be adjusted
next ask them about the cooling issues, their testing will answer that question. If you look at their website it tells everything
Above all, you should have any car inspected at a MB dealer and get a master sheet and get a carfax BEFORE YOU BUY IT

Yes cooling is much better, and direct injection helps the engine a lot. You can still find intercooler heat exchanger upgrades, but they're not needed as badly as the previous AMG forced induction engines.

Good luck with the new ride, however I would do some more homework before committing. I thought there were some issues with the 63TT cars randomly shutting off. I would read all the 63TT forums (E,CLS,S&SL) to learn more about the motor and cooling issue, regardless of the platform, I can't picture the engine performance to differ too much. The change to the SL is going to be more of a size factor once you understand the motor and its capabilities.
Finding out if the car has already been tuned is important, since it tells you the original owners use and behavior. Asking Renntech if they think additional cooling is necessary is crazy. They sell a $3500 cooling kit so of course they will speak on the importance of additional cooling, that is their business and how they make money, if not try to push a $1400 pump. The parts aren't offered on their website for the SL, probably due to fitment not need, since they are listed for both the E and CLS.
Its too bad you have been able to get more response for 63TT owners, try the 212 forum, those guys are pushing their cars and may know when the additional cooling is really needed, and at what outside temps they notice power to fall off, Florida still gets hot.
