Twice now, after my SL65 has been sitting for a couple of cold days, I've experienced a strange starting behavior. When the car cranks over, the RPMs drop to almost 0 and then immediately spike back up. Is this normal? Maybe just the fuel pump getting going?

I've heard that many AMG cars are having trouble with the ethanol this year in fuel causing vapor lock. if you can put in some non ethanol fuel and see what happens. I am luck and have a station near that sells 92 Octane non ethanol for about 9 cents more per gallon than other stations sell with 10$ Ethanol.
