Advice for starting SL550 up after 6 months down

Hi all,

My 2007 SL has been out of service since late December 2015. I will post an (expletive filled) explanation in a couple of days as to why.

In the meantime, it will be available to restart by mid next week. There has been nothing wrong with it mechanically. It has been sitting on 4 jack stands in my garage for the last 6 months.

I have had trickle chargers on the two batteries for a few weeks. The front battery seems to be fine. Not so sure about the back battery as the charger never goes off.

Since it has been on jack stands, I have not been comfortable starting it as I was afraid of the engine vibration possibly wobbling it enough to make it fall (probably a misguided fear but aren't most!)

Once I get the wheels back on it, what is your advice on what else to check and what else to do before restarting it? Should I siphon the gas as it is 6 months old and I know gas doesn't stay as stable as it once did here in the U.S.

Any and all advice is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Sg

Just start it up and drive it to a gas station and fill her up

Enjoy the drive

If its been kept dry and the battery charged, there isn't very much to worry about.

However, I did have a problem with mine that might be worth relaying. One of the ball joints in the FR suspension height sensor seized. This broke the mounting bracket, and resulted in a suspension collapse .

Only think is, it only happened after several miles driving, because the mounting bracket was flexing to accommodate the motion, until it stress fractured.

Therefore I'd suggest checking that the drop link ball joints haven't seized. Grab each one with a pair of pliers, and twist it about it's vertical axis. See if it rotates, or does it simply bend the plastic lever arm on the sensor.

Above posts all good. I was gone to Afghanistan, came back and got the main starter battery up. Started it, and with a good alternator, the accessory battery will charge up if its good. The only other thing I would recommend is to manually cycle through the hydraulic ride settings.
