I would have thought there's more than enough evidence here that Mercedes do not get it right - stories of new engines, gearboxes, wiring looms, water leaks, electronic nightmares. It's most likely the DB9 will be an addition to, not a replacement for the SL55.

Blue Sl, my comments are based on my personal experiences, not other peoples.

In 1977 I had a new British Rover SDI, absolute disaster car.

In 1979 I bought a new Lotus Elite 504, absolute disaster car.

In 1980 I bought a MBand have now owned 15 (including 6 SLs ). During this 24 year period,I have had no problems worthy of mention.

In 2001, I bought a new Bentley Arnage. My post was a reflection based on this vehicle. I love it, but what a pain to own.

Fantasy land?

why is it so hard to beleive that the engine on my car blew up.

if you think im lying please do this:

call mbz of long beach

talk to al medina in service

ask him if michael zarabi brought his white sl55 with lorinser package in

then ask him whats wrong with it, and how old the car is

If you still dont beleive me call mani at Dynamic Design, who by the way did a great job on the car, and i reccommend to everyone. 818 998 4000. and ask him about me and the car.

now the reason i dont have pics of my sl are because i live in west la and my car broke down in long beach. im not going to drive 45 minutes to take pics of an engine or car i really dont want to look at ever again.

if you want to see pictures so bad you can go see the car and post pictures yourself. honestly i just posted my story on this board to share it with you guys, but i hate more than anything to be called a liar. i can understand people lie and post things about cars that they say they have, but you have to understand that just because some people lie doesnt mean everyone does. if thats the case then you shouldnt beleive anyone on this board.

I simply find it hard to fathom that (2) non-modified SL55 engines spontaneously blew up, for no reason, and one after another.

Now, if they were modded engines with Super Chargers, etc., I would more likely find the stroy credible.

Maybe the type of gas that you ran is a factor... its a really high compression engine.

Im relatively familiar with the mercedes cars and know they arent usually problematic. I would venture to guess that maybe you were doing something wrong and that caused the demise of your SL's. I dont think your lying I know things happen, but I find it hard to believe that 2 mercedes in a row blew on you. It might be worth looking into. Talk to the dealer and see what caused it. I would also like to say that I am familiar with most mercedes but do not have any experience with the new SL55's so I could be wrong.

I had my doubts too, especially with the 190 at the end of his name. But now he provides contacts to verify his story. So Mr. X will you be calling any of them?

I'm just curious as to the reason two of your consecutive SL55 engines failed so dramatically. Leaving the story at that doesn't seem plausible or knowledgeable (Mercedes not ascertaining the source of failure). Please let us know the diagnosis. Saying that the SL55 broke and that you "never want to see it again" doesn't sound like you care too much about specialty vehicles or take responsibility of having owned that vehicle. It feels kinda of like easy come easy go, who really cares, on to the next interest, not my money kinda of issue. I, being one of many would want to know WHY? and WHAT HAPPENED? from Mercedes/AMG directly. An explanation is on order from your dealership and you should demand it for closure and personal responsibility, if anything else.

Not everyone can afford those sort of cars, you should consider yourself lucky and not waste your money by dumping it at the dealer. If you dont even know or care what happened to your car, you are a fool. You could feed a million people with that sort of money.

Here are a couple answers to the questions posted:

the 190 behingd my name was because ive owned a mercedes since my first car. it was a 190e 2.6. and ive used this name as a screename ever since i was 16.

let me clear something up. the reason the first one went back was because it had major oil leaks from the engine, and the throddle body went out on me 2 times while i was on the freeway. the second sl failed because the engine did blow on me . the dealer said it had a faulty "rod". now i have no clue what that means but they just said that the engine was bad from the beginning.

the reason i can "care less" about the car is because after 2 yrs of owning an sl55 i never got to enjoy the vehicle. it was problematic from the beginning. when you pay that much money for a car just to have it in the shop for another reason every other week really gets annoying, and i felt like i was ripped off.

the money was not an issue because i did drive the first one for about 9 months and i only paid 8000 total. thats pretty much a bargain for a brand new sl55. the second one will cost me around 3-4ooo to give it back + a hit on the rims and kit which should be around another 3k. in my opinion its worth it to get out of this car.

and this wasnt my first post. i was posting ever since i got my second sl because i didnt know about the forum.

and about it being the driver i should agree somewhat. i am a very aggressive/fast driver, and i dont think that i broke in the cars the right way. i am only 23 yrs old, and i do love speed. i really didnt have the patience to break in the cars. also everyone has to admit to a certain degree that the quality of benz cars has gone down a lot.

and i still dont mind if anyone wants to check up on those #'s i gave all of you ... and if you have any other questions please dont hesitate to ask

Hey I suggested Mr "X"risto call the people you had listed to confirm your story, he never responded to that request. I guess he was quick to judge you but slow to get more evidence
