Dyno numbers in

Finally got my SL65 on EuroCharged's dyno. Car had the following mods:

-Speedriven top mount intercoolers with scorpion intakes
-Speedriven catted downpipes
-Speedriven BOVs
-Speedriven ECU and TCU tunes
-RENNtech heat exchanger
-RENNtech LSD
-Trunk ice tank
-Muffler delete

Pre-dyno, this setup netted 11.1 @124 on drag radials in 95* heat. IATs were also pretty high during runs that day at about 140*.

CDM, who did the installation work for me, went through all the cooling and noticed an H/E pump that wasn't flowing well. We replaced that with a Bosch 010. This netted a drop of about 15* in IATs at WOT to about 125*.

EuroCharged confirmed the IATs on their dyno, noting that cooling is working well on the car.

From there, the car was baselined with the SD shelf tune and netted 589/753.

They then loaded their tune and netted 623/895. 895 rwtq! If I factor in an 18% drivetrain loss, the crank HP number seems right at about 760. Torque-wise, an 18% loss would equate to almost 1100 lb/ft. Holy smokes!

AFRs during the run looked good at just under 12.0 during peak power. Jerry and team are going to strap the car down to see if they can extract anymore power, but as of now, I have a safe and powerful 65 that I hope can finally see 10s!

Thanks Jerry and Eurocharged for getting my car dialed in!

Have Jerry do a custom tune and you'll pick up much more with the mods you have.

There's definitely a lot more in it. However, Jerry is concerned about the stock 5G. We don't want to turn it up too much and lose the transmission on the first run.

Well, ended up with the 623/895. EC played with the tune and that was the best output. I'm not going to upgrade fueling or get bigger turbos so I guess my car is done engine-wise.

You gotta love that flat hp curve. Just a whole bunch of power available throughout the rpm range.

Did you try a run without the intakes and see what the difference was? I would think the scorpion intakes would cause some power loss since me and race horse had the same setup as you before I did more upgrades and we were in the 630-640 range and people have complained about the heat soak with that intake setup. It could be the intakes or maybe the cats in your downpipes since we both ran catless downpipes. But its worth looking into if you want a squeeze a bit more out.

Thanks for the reference point.

I may remove the engine cover and filters at the track for runs, but don't plan to dyno just to see that dif. I'd definitely say my cats have scraped some hp away.

Yeah, ditch the scorpion intakes. Do a search for Racehorse intakes. The scorpions may work on the dyno but the engine is going to heatsoak like crazy when the hood is down.

The 65s lay down some impressive #s on the dyno, but I have yet to hear of an example confirming said #s at the track.

All I want is a 10 sec slip. I think my car is there. It's not easy to get M113Ks in the 10s either.

There are 6 Sl65s in the 10s and 2 SL55s in the 10s on drag times. I'm not quite sure what you are getting at, but I would think you know the 65s have a few limits that put it at a disadvantage for 1/4 mile times. The stock rotors are much heavier and require a 19" wheel as a minimum up front and 18s in the rear. There aren't any real light weight drag packs available and weight means everything getting off the line. Power delivery is different too. You are not seeing many 65s get 1.5x 60 ft times. Yet almost all of the quick 55s cut low to mid 1.5x 60 ft times.

The typical 65 owner does cooling mods, exhaust, intake and tune. There are a lot more supporting mods and interest for the 55s. There are a few who have really taken the proven mods and perfected them for some really fast cars. I have a lot of respect for those guys.

You are right, big numbers don't always produce the best times, but you also are not dealing with a gutted E55. A full weight car well over 4000 lbs running 10s is impressive. My CL weighs in over 4600 lbs lol.

I think you will have no problem running a 10 second pass with decent weather. Be sure to heat up your tires well and launch at 2500 rpms or better if your brakes will hold you on the line. This will make a big difference with your 60 ft. Also, run the car down to empty and put in some MS109, it will make a big difference as well. Good luck.
