OPINIONS NEEDED....how much will SL65 sell over sticker?

Im just wondering if the new SL65 will sell significantly over sticker for those who buy it at reputable dealers. So if i buy for sticker and resell after a few months, will i get my money back. All opinions are appreciated.

With the SL65 you will get your money back, but good luck getting a dealership to sell you one anytime soon.

They are going to look after their moneymaking clients (i.e., those who purchase many MB's a year) and offer the SL65's to them first.

I know of two such dealerships who are doing just this: the dealership owner is keeping an SL65 for himself, and selling the other to one of his "preferred clients."

My dealership here in West Palm is taking care of me. I bought mine here at sticker. I found that all the dealerships in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area sold for many thousands of dollars over sticker, even a year after the car came out. I would never buy a Benz from a dealership in Miami.

Consider yourself lucky as the farther south you go, the worse the attitude becomes.

I always shake my head in amazement when I receive pompous attitudes from people who make peanuts.

I thought you needed the SL65 to replace the SL55's you had with the blown engines? Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

$25000 has been the quote in S. Florida. One dealer has contracts for 2 cl55 at $25000 over. I did see an Ebay auction that was selling a cl65 spot for $10,000 (buy now). I believe that is a more realistic indication for the first few spots. PS The same dealer above has been allocated 7 SLR spots. Wonder what the marl up will be.

Who is crazy enough to pay over MSRP

You have got to be kidding. This is already going to be the most overpriced Benz ever offered. We are talking $175,000 just because of the carbon fiber engine cover? You guys have been drinking too much AMG kool aid.

Anyone who pays over MSRP for these cars is in for a serious haricut six months later when they move on to the next great thing from AMG.

My dealer in AZ took great care of me. I ordered mt SL55 and paid sticker when it came in...even when there was a $50K premium in the secondary market to be made.

I have the top 2 spots for the SL65. I have been told a late fall order with early winter delivery. If anyone is interested I will be selling at least one of those positions. PM me.

Not to say that its not overpriced, but there are a bunch of differences between the 600 and the 65, for example its a 6.0liter not a 5.5, larger turbos, the engine is hand built, larger brakes, larger wheels,

Why not the Bentley?

Isn't the Continental GT the better performance bargain? It won't be more exclusive since supposedly there are 3,000 deposits for the car worldwide,

I just saw an ad in Autoweek for an early SL65 delivery....$75,000+MSRP!

This could be interesting! Anyone want my spot!

News around the NY Auto show is that MSRP will be just over $200K with only 200 units for the US market

I just picked up a black '04 SL500 Sports Package about 6 weeks ago. I absolutely love the car! I have nothing against AMG because I think the performance of these cars blows away most any car on the road these days, and if money were growing on trees, I certainly wouldn't hesitate. But I would like to hear the justification for spending between $175K-$250K on an SL65 when, for the same amount of money, you can buy a 360 Modena, Lambo, or Continental GT that will perform better. I think the R230 is one of the most beautiful cars ever built, but for $200K, I would rather buy an exotic....

SL65 slower than Modena and Continental GT?

Of course it's not.

The SL65 will blow them both away. The SL55 will too!

Not sure about that. In the latest Autocar 0-100-0 tests both the Lambo Gallardo and Murcielargo beat the CL65 which just beat the DB9. Here are the times:

Galardo - 13.46 secs
Murcielago - 13.90 secs
CL65 - 14.01
DB9 - 14.91

Gosh!! All those numbers (except the AM) are so close that they could be interchangable. So much of that stuff (in the real world) is driver dependent.

I just did an AMG Challenge driver's school where we got to abuse (i mean use) all the AMG models. The SL55 was much more of a driver's car(and faster both in a straight line and through a road course) than the CL55. So I'm sure that the analogy for the CL65 and SL65 could be the same.

I'm sure that that the SL65 will be knocking on the door of SLR performance....once again making the SLR kind of an expensive exercise in futility.

There is alot more to a car than hp, torque and 1/4 mile times. I'm not saying that I disagree with you, but the SL and SLR are still very different cars.

In a straight line yes, on a track the lambo and 360 will beat the heavy SL65 without a question.
