SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL65 IC Circuit
Just had a new IC pump installed (car runs great) but noticed a small coolant drip out of this exposed fitting. Is this supposed to be open to let the Circuit 'burp' after filling, or do I need to roll back to the shop?

Went from the Bosch '010' version to the Pierburg. Noticeable difference. Throttle response is instantaneous and after the drive I can lay my hand on either intercooler for as long as I care to. Not sure I'd even call them 'warm.'

I wont presume to know what the heat exchanger/intercooler resistance to flow is in an SL65 (head pressure in PSI at pump outlet), but on my SL55, I measure over 12Psi of head pressure (when pumping over 6 gallons per minute through the system).
If you look at this chart (compiled from the published flow ratings of the various pump manufacturers) ... you can see the CWA 100 still flows 30 Lpm at 12psi while the WP136 appears to stop pumping altogether at 7 psi of head pressure.
I have tested a few pumps (head to head recording flow at pressure) and the only pump I've found that outpumps the CWA 100 is the ZR1 pump (custom built for GM by peirberg) but at $1200 for the ZR1 pump vs $400 or less for the CWA100, I like the Cwa100 more .

I and countless others have long since come to respect and value your contributions and input/opinions here, so despite published pump performance data to the contrary, I will have to consider including the WP136 in any future testing I do.

worth mentioning, in my test of 5 different pumps that I did last year (measuring flow and noting head pressure as I measured the time to pump 5 gallons through the same charge cooling system), the 4 pumps that I tested that were on this chart (bosch 002, bosch 010, cwa 50 and cwa 100) had performance that matched the graph (< +/- 10%)

Doesn't the electrical connector on the CWA100.2 need to be modified to work on a car that just has 2 wires going to IC pump.
What that being said it is the same pump used in the M157 cars I think dealer cost is about $275




I had heard that the price was dropping on the Mercedes OE version of the cwa100.2 , but I just looked up the number I had handy (0005000486) and I see the wholesale is currently $400 (up from $373 last I looked). If you have a different part number or better source that would make sense as I did hear the price was coming down a little.
Using the Mercedes version DOES require that you find the correct 4 pin connector. Hooking this to your car requires that you wire pins 3 and 4 to +12 and pin 1 wired to ground (pin 2 is unconnected). This wiring applies to both the cwa50 and cwa100. I have a BMW part number for the connector housing and pins that I use .... not sure if you can get the Mercedes branded connector without buying a whole harness .... BUT in any case, all of the connectors are made at the same place, TYCO electronics .
The pump that VRP offers is a cwa 100 (presumably .2) that is set up from the factory with a 2-pin connector (+12 and ground) ... and comes with the 2-pin connector'd pig-tail to attach to your harness AND, it comes with a mounting bracket (both the bracket and connector you will have to source/fab if you are using the OE cwa100).

So, just to be clear, if I were to order that pump from VRP, it should be plug and play on a SL65? I have the Meziere pump, but there aren't any shops near that I trust. Pretty sure the front pump is shot (dealership says no)
and I know my rear sump pump is. (IATs in the 120's+ even on 40deg day) :/ I'm trying to get down to have Shardul install my KillerChiller and pump, but one of my struts has a small leak if I let the car sit for an extended period. Seeing that the VVK coilovers (hopefully close to completion and before I have a failure) are the bigger expense, I probably need to have that done first. This would be something that would help in the meantime. Maybe mount the Meziere in the trunk?Thanks,

I can't say I know off hand if your wiring is rated for 10 amps (pump draws 8 to 8.5 amps IIRC). OK, I just took a look at the WebETM and it looks like your car has 1mm wire up to the separation point x35/15 (in box with Driver SAM) which should be fine for 10 to 14 amps ... but after that, it is only .75 mm (from the separtation point to the pump, M44) which is not good for much more than 7.5 amps . If it were my car, I would pull a new piece of wire from the separation point to the pump (if installing a higher load pump) 1mm or AWG 16 ( actaully, that is what I did in my SL).

You could have them tie the pump to an open circuit15 fuse so that the pump will turn on anytime the car is turned on.
In my SL55, I actually added a fuse holder (to the circuit15 bus in the passenger side SAM) and then ran heavier wire to the pump from there.
