Can't find metal clips
Plastic undercarriage between inner front fender and front lower bumper there is a weird reinforcement piece 230–885-01-16. There is one on the left side and one on the right side ***** takes for metal retaining clips. These are not speed nuts but metal clips. If anybody knows what I'm talking about Can you please tell me where I can buy some. Mercedes in New Mexico doesn't know what I'm talking about or what the part is. I wonder If they are necessary but I like to have everything buttoned up when I get this thing to speed

yes ive had many of them , there are different sizes. All are on the MB parts diagrams for the fender fillers. Everything on the car is in the parts catalogue , they just dont know what you are looking for or dont want to sell it to you

I checked catalog and MB diagrams and the clips are not shown. MB says they must come with the front bumper because they are not shown. Is there anywhere else I could get them? I don't want to buy bumper.

Looks like the following:
A 004 994 31 45
Clip type nut
EDIT: Could also be this one:
A 001 994 98 45
Clip type nut (this may be the one that actually presses into the frame)
They are used in multiple locations. You'll also need the screw:
A 001 990 60 36
Sheet Metal Screw, Bracket Mounting 4.8x19
At least under the W211 EPC section, they are located under section 52 - Chassis Sheet Metal / Air Intake, sub-section 030 Engine compartment paneling.
Heck, order four of each and you're good to go for years. And you can amaze your Benz-owning friends when they need this particular clip! ;-)
Worst case, go to an automotive parts store and purchase a box of the clips in assorted sizes. You'll need to locate sheet metal screws to fit those clips.

Thanks, unfortunately these retaining clips do not take screws. They function as clips without screws. Theif is no place for screws. The schematic I have is the same one Mercedes parts showed me and He says they must come with the bumper since they are not shown. I am such a fool I bought every speed not on the schematic page associated with the parts in hopes that one of them would actually be this retaining clip. No luck. I was really hoping that somebody knew of an aftermarket place to buy them. I checked catalogs at AutoZone and O'Reilly's and at a Mercedes body shop to no avail. I can't rivet thE reinforcement peace without it looking like crap from the outside.

try another mb dealer, a good parts man can look them up, I never had trouble getting everything when I was swapping out bumpers
