Odd problem w/Radio, CD & Nav
On my 2005 SL65 I'm having the following intermittent issue:
Following a large popping sound coming thru my speakers, the Head Unit will turn off. Another strange symptom is I'll hear intermittent popping sounds thru the speakers even when the Head Unit is turned off.
Some other symptoms (or coincidences) are:
- The problem is temporarily corrected by clearing the ECU but this may just be a coincidence of turning the car off?
- The problem arrived shortly after the dealership replaced my convenience battery. I'm not certain this is related to the issue nor am I blaming them. I just submit as possibly related to the cause.
- Sometimes the radio will work but the Navigation gives me an error = Nav not available
- The popping sounds like something electrical is not grounded
I've tried ejecting Nav DVD and removed by CD cassette to no avail.
Any ideas? (thanks in advance)

MBWorld Fanatic!
Check amp and rear nav (trunk) locations. You could possibly have
a water leak, and it is causing a short. I would also check other
parts of the trunk, under the carpet liner. A bad rubber seal may
be letting in water which is making its way to your electronics.

Just a follow-up. Never found any moisture in areas noted above. My car is 100% garaged and not driven on wet days so I didn't think I'd find anything but I did look.
I'm having no issues for past couple days of driving. I'm thinking the problem could have been due to a stuck button ("#") on the Audio presets. This particular button has been sticky since I purchased the car a couple years ago and I haven't been able to free it up. Fortunately I don't use the "#" button as it's a Phone function
