Intro to the SL Club
Hey guys.
Well, I did it. After 15 years of owning a CL600 (and all that that entails!), I decided to double down and sign up for another, hopefully less costly decade of V-twelvey goodness.
So I'm no stranger to the breed in general, but certainly have a lot to learn about this particular species. I'm looking forward to that, and eventually contributing here as well once I get sorted.
So just a quick hello, and here's a few pics - left here without further commentary. Have fun, I can take it.

PS: Looks like it might be time to change the sig, too.

Thanks!
Those pics were from the pickup and glorious drive from Florida to New York. I'll get a proper shoot soon. The car is in near flawless condition, and I'm a pretty picky judge.

Heh... "my eyes!"
Yeah, I've gotten a little bit of that so far. But for what it's worth, pictures don't do it justice.
First up on the hitlist, the pneumatic pump for the trunk lid soft close needs a bit of attention. Soft close wasn't working when I took delivery, but I found a helpful thread here that guided me to fuse F71 under the passenger-side storage bin. A pull and replace to reset the system did the trick and now soft close works, but I'm concerned there's a fault somewhere and I don't want to risk a repair that's more expensive than it needs to be. If anyone here can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful for that.
New tires are also a MUST to get these 8 year old shoes off the car. I'd like to go 295 in the rear. Need to get the offset numbers from the wheels prior to ordering, but any guidance here, again... would appreciate. And of course I'll search too - but tire threads are usually, how shall I put it... "inconclusive?"
Cheers,

As for the soft close, you probably have a leak in the trunk lid pneumatic lock mechanism. It's very common for these cars to develop micro-cracks in the plastic connections that are near the ball-plugged ports. You can either A) buy a new mechanism, or B) put some epoxy goop all over the cracks and see if it holds. I personally did B, just to see if it worked (knowing I'll just buy the mechanism later). It's held for now, but I haven't ran my car enough recently to know longterm

It's all good, Vipe. I recognize it's not for everyone, and like you implied, cars should suit their owners and not necessarily everyone else. Some will dig it and some won't, but no one will mistake it for another. If and when the time comes to sell, I'm pretty sure only the ones who honestly like it will come out of the woodwork to "do me the favor." LOL
Thanks for the tip about the hoses. I'll look into it. Are the typical failure points inside the trunk lid trim, or somewhere further upstream, if you know? Searching now...

Good to know I'm not the only one out here! I'd love to see pics of these cars, guys. Feel free to add 'em here.
This was one of those purchases I was ready to not go through with if I weren't completely floored upon seeing it. And we all know how it ended, so... yeah.

Thanks Vader.
I haven't been able to find reliable production numbers for the SL65 to determine "1 of-ness." (Are they out there?) But it's certainly rare. Yellow on black, with yellow stitching, and from the looks of the OEM designo mats with yellow insignia, it's a designo optioned car. Other yellow SL65s are findable in Google images, but no telling if they're factory like mine is, or wrapped, or repainted, etc.

I have saved my original date coded set Bridgestone's - We'll see how long I can hold on to them before tossing...
With less than 400 SL65's built in 2006, you have a rare color for sure!
