I ran 245/40/18's on the front of my 2005 SL for 3 weeks while waiting for new wheels. Still had the 285/35/18's on the rear. Drove it about 600 miles, there were no real issues. It handles and rides better with the 255/40/18's on the front.

The fronts are going to be traveling around 3.2% slower than the rears. It may cause issues with the stability control if you get in an emergency situation but, then again, you may be OK. I'm not really sure what the cars variance is before the safety nannies kick in or deactivate after so many errors are logged.

I run 245/40's and 275/35's .. perfect balance ...way cheaper than 255's and 285's ...
half price to be exact ... and looks wise you wouldn't notice the difference ..
