2005 SL55 AMG outside air temp sensor location

not the clearest pic but you get the idea...
I just finished replacing the outside air temp sensor. After spending some time trying to find an online source for the EXACT location of the sensor, I tried various suggestions that I found online. As we all know, there is very little available info from MB, so this post is to help the next guy save some time. The outside air ambient sensor on the 2005 SL55 AMG is located on the driver's side underbelly between left front tire and driver's side foglight. These sensors are very easily broken as they protrude outside of the vehicle.

Access for me was first removing left front wheel. Then remove lower screws holding the inner wheel well plastic. Pull back on the wheel well and you will see the sensor (most easily spotted by noticing attaching wires) . Pull sensor gently out of placement hole and replace with new sensor ~ $20.

No thats not the place for it. As I remember its always in the front grille, usually down low, theres always a round hole , opening it fits in

touche! Fair enough, I am wrong.

I failed to mention that the previous owner of my 2005 SL55 AMG had the entire front of the car replaced by the dealer with 2006 SL55 AMG parts as he preferred the look. I thought that was one weird place to install an air sensor as the car sits so low as it is. Probably dealer said "aw shucks where does this go", and installed it in the wrong location, as that is EXACTLY where I found it. That said, it looks from the last pic that the correct location for the 2005 SL55 AMG outside ambient air sensor is just left of the driver's side foglight. If I were to throw myself at the mercy of the forum, and ask, should I also assume that would be the correct location for the 2006 model? Thank you to all that have replied. My apologies Okb

Some models get the mounting in the middle grill, not side, in fact, all SL55s do, including those with 030 bumper. STAR is wrong.
