Help! Broken hose fitting - Need A Quick Fix!
Hello,
I was getting ready for a road trip tomorrow and accidentally broke this hose fitting to the overflow coolant tank! Dealer won’t be open until 11 am tomorrow. I was hoping you guys can give me a temporary fix for this. So mad! I barely bumped the hose too. Probably an original fitting and brittle already. I can’t figure out hose the “S” clamp releases without breaking it. Thanks!

Figured it out?
Looks like I’ll need to go to the dealer. Special fitting huh ? I hope I didn’t break anything. I heard some bits falling to the ground as I gently pulled it out.

Yup! Thanks, I need a new expansion Looks like after 11 years the reservoir has become brittle. Warning: Don't rub or touch these fittings if your SL is as old as mine! They fittings will crumble. I was very careful trying to lift the clip and free the hose. I went to the dealer and found out the fitting I broke on the hose is not available as a separate purchase. I showed him all the pipe fittings online and one from a C230 that look exactly alike. He brought out the part and it was obviously too big! He said the fitting I needed only came with the entire hose! Is he correct? The fitting has the exact same numbers stamped on them (probably a mfg serial #) but it's not a part # to add to the confusion.
I went ahead and ordered the entire hose. I didn't realize the tank was damaged too until I got home. I have to get that on Monday now.

Yes, you have to buy the whole hose, it's molded together and isn't supposed to come off the hard plastic line. Surprised you broke the tank too, normally if you lift the metal clip and gently work the broken hose out they come out ok. The hoses break all the time though, that's not on you, they are just cheap plastic and get super fragile after a couple years of baking in the engine bay.

I think I broke the tank fitting because I pulled the clip all the way off! (That's when I heard pieces falling to the bottom of the engine bay) I think your supposed to only pull slightly and wiggle the hose out. (I didn't know) Yes, the SL55 is the first car I have ever owned that the engine remained hot to the touch off even after 4 hours in mild summer weather! I have found these pipes aftermarket in aluminum which should last longer but, again I think they are the wrong size (too big)
From my research, the fittings (breather pipe) that already come pressed fitted into the hoses are smaller and these larger OEM or aftermarket won't work. I can't believe MBZ would spend the money to tool such a specific cheap part. Logic says they should all be the same size right?
