SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Omg Look At The New Sl65 Amg!!!
What is the true measure of "sporting"?
How about performance on the Nurburgring???
Even the SL55 (a footballers wife car???)
Lapped faster (6 secs to be exact) than the Z8
From the way you talk, we understand you must wait a couple of years older to be ready and muture enough to be in a AMG SL.
When we were young, all we want was the fast and easy type. But when one get older, one shall understand beauty comes in different types and standard. I agreed with Hellcat.

But, I do attempt to READ READ READ all I can find about Mercedes Benz in an effort to learn and keep up with you fine folks.
I'm not about to search all over the internet and through my literature as to find this article,
BUT,
in "The Star" or some magazine several months ago there was an interview with the President of AMG.
He said the reason we don't see manual AMG's are becuase they (MB, AMG?) lack the capacity to build a strong enough clutch for the numbers of torque these automobiles are putting out these days.
Weather he meant they can't build it or we the people cannot drive it I'm not sure, as it was a while ago, but it had to do with the clutch.
!!!---I'M JUST PASSING ON WHAT I HEARD! THIS ISN'T MY OPINION! SO PLEASE DON'T TELL ME I'M FULL OF
---!!!Also, IMHO, the SLR sucks. UGLY.
Probably get's up and goes like there's no tomorra, but I'd take the SL55 or, Lord Willing, the CL600 over that any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Dude, Sunday is a day of rest.

this whole bmw - merc thing in this thread really urks me...comparing an M3 to SLAMG whatever... is absurd
It's a tiresome comparison. It's also important to understand that Mercedes doesn't even target BMW drivers with its AMG models as a potential customer group. Especially the high-end AMG's are focused specifically on upgrading existing Mercedes customers.
Another thing is this talk about a manual tranny; they're great to drive when you know how to use it and an absolute pain in city traffic (where many spend their time going 15 mph). Even SMG's don't make for the best shifting experience and most modern slushboxes beat a manual tranny coupled with an average driver any day.
Btw. BMW is undoing themselves anyway; the cars not only get uglier (imho), but also lack the "BMW" driving experience. Having driven the new 7 series and bit and the new 5 series extensively (in Europe) I can say that both lack the the closeness to the road and driver feedback that the prior models posessed. What a shame...
They actually felt more like what Mercedes is often blamed for; electronically over-assisted and somewhat artificial. I hope the new M5 will be better...
If there is something I would wish for on the SL, it would be 4 wheel drive. I could actually get that all that power onto the road

My 2 cents...
