Interestingly the default wheels for the US market seem to be the 5 "thin" spoke wheels. The default for Europe is the multispoke (looks like a turbine) wheels.

Thanks for the post,

Maybe I missed it, but did it state anywhere what the base starting price will be for the SL55? Thanks,

Johan

Amazing about the brakes. Front is an 8-piston caliper and rear is 4-piston??

And the options, reminds me of an expensive restaurant menu!

I'm surprised how much MB USA is keeping us in the dark on the pricing for the SL55.

Maybe they're worried that people like me who have early (june/july) delivery dates for SL500's will cancel if they know "for sure" how much the 55 is.

Pretty annoying. I wish they'd just roll the damned car out.

The car is capable of >200mph, and in Germany, most buyers will have the 155mph speedlimiter removed (and I think AMG then set it to 170 something, based on the rating of the tyres that are on it) - so I guess the brakes are capable of stopping the de-restricted car

Go look at the full/proper option list, not this "strangely packaged" version that you in the US get.

Full German option list
http://www.mercedes-benz.de/mbd/pdf/Sl-fi.pdf

Slightly reduced set of options for the UK, as we have a load of options as standard, and dont get certain things (such as the timed heater that can be made to warm the car up everyday before you get in it)

http://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/pc/pc.../pricelist.pdf

And, for once, you guys in the US have an option we in Europe can't order, which is the 415, panoramic roof. Which *intensley* upsets me, as I wanted it :-(

And, dont forget, theres a zillion Designo options aswell that can be specified. (such as loads of different color and two-tone interiors, alcantara head lining, loads of special exterior colors etc)

Thanks Richard,

Do you have further information on the full range of Designo options offered in Europe. Thaey give us very little here.
I am particularly interested in obtaining the new granite interior trim package...either when I order the car or if necessary ordering it staight from Germany and getting it installed here.
Thanks again,

JCO

I *almost* ordered Granite , but my wife decided she didnt like it. I did order the alpaca grey alcantara head lining.

Adding designo options adds 4-8 weeks to the delivery time, because after its been on the production line, it then goes off to the designo line to have the customisation ..

I do have a list of the designo bits "easily" orderable for the SL on a MB document somewhere, i'll scan it in and add it to the thread once ive fixed my other PC :-(

The designo bits are orderable afterwards, and its not particularly hard to remove the aluminium trim and replace it ... in fact, im sure you could then sell the aluminium trim to a SL500 owner somewhere :-)

Door Closing Assist

Hi, I noticed in the UK specs that the SL has door and boot closing assist. Is this true for all the 2003 SL's? I haven't read about this in any review or in the brochure for the US.

Also, what about ventilated seats for the US? I thought the multi-contour came with the SL55, but that the ventilated seat option was available for the US SL55s?

Its wrong. I asked my MB dealer, who pulled out an internal document saying "its wrong, it only has, and only can have, boot closer"..

Thanks Richard...I'll watch for further info!
JCO

p.s. Do you have any pics of the granite or can you describe the color? The only ones I have seen are from MB's site and it's a bit difficult to tell the actual color.

Ok, ive posted them into a new thread.

There are 2 stone options, a bluey colour and a greeny colour. The blue colour is shown in the UK main brochure, so you may find it on www.mercedes-benz.co.uk. Ive never seen either in real life

The full brochures are like gold dust here though ...
