Stripping and refinishing 2004 SL55 wheels
As a home project (I'm retired)...I am looking for advise on how to refinish my AMG wheels. The original silver paint is cracked and stained and I was going to strip and refinish.
Interestingly, I started with the lip on one wheel and I was able to make it shine nicely (red circle in picture)...I am wondering if the whole wheel looks like this if I strip it completely. The wheel "face" paint seems more stubborn than the lip did?
Also, does anyone recommend a chemical stripper...as right now I am using acetate and steel wool...BUT that does not seem to work on the wheel face?
Thanks for any recommendations.
Thanks,
Tom

to remove paint I would say a bead blaster or small table top sand blaster... to use chemicals to remove wheel paint is actaully you sanding it off with your steel wool.
take them off find local shop and for $100 or so they will blast them
Then you can spray paint them or if aluminum polish them to a shine.

If your dead set on doing it yourself there is plenty of youtube videos showing you how to do it. It's a pain doing it yourself.
Many areas have shops that will refinish your wheels for less than $100 a wheel.

Thanks for the responses.
I am awaiting an estimate from a shop BUT I though this might be a fun project.
I was concerned with chemical strippers damaging the wheel.
Also, I was wondering if I can expect the same metal finish look (like I am finding when I strip/polish the lip) when I strip the face/spokes.
