'03 SL55 AMG suspension

I recently began getting an ABC warning light..1st in amber telling me to go to workshop and sometimes it goes to red if I encounter a big bump. Mechanic ran a diagnostic and tells me that there are two pumps. An air pump that adjusts ride height (that seems to work fine) and a hydraulic tandem suspension/power steering pump. He believes it has failed..says last time he checked it was about 2 grand. Seems there are a lot of horror stories related to suspension on these cars. I plan to keep it long term (it replaced a 300ZX conv after 17 years). I seem to remember reading about an aftermarket replacement that would be more reliable ? What are my options ? Any input or suggestions would be appreciated. I live in the Greeenville, SC/Johnson city, TN area if anyone knows of a reputable/knowledgeable shop in the area. Thanks !!

Mine had a similar problem and it was an accumulator as I recall. It wasn't huge money and it was back on the road. That was ~7 years ago and there hasn't been an issue before or since with the ABC.
