For driveability, the 220 was my favorite. It seemed to be able to get the power to the road better than later S-class models. Lots of advancements in on-board tech in later models, of course, but I really miss my W220 S65.

Now drive an E63S. Have driven 221 S65 and 222 S65. Wife has had all the AMG C classes, from C36 through C63S. Agility of C chassis is lots of fun. I think the E63S is the best compromise yet. AWD is very important. An S65 with AWD + ABC/MBC would be amazing, but for all the wonder of the V-12, the same power from a light V-8 makes for a lot better driving experience for me. Of course I miss the low-end and unlimited torque of the AMG V-12, but giving up that jet-engine smoothness (an of course the luxury of the S-class) is worth it for me for the drive experience. I'd still love to see an S-class, AWD, full hydraulic suspension, V-12, with a transmission that can handle the 1,000 pound-feet that the engine could produce. That would be an amazing car.
