Thinking about selling my SL65 AMG, thoughts?

Had it for around 3.5 years, but will be doing a lot of consulting out of town. So thinking about selling it.

2008
Fully Black
Less than 100k miles
Brand New (in box) OEM Set of Wheels from Germany (worth over $10k)
Serviced by Blue Ridge Mercedes (Atlanta Area, No Snow)
Shown in Caffeine and Exotics

I've been looking at the market and there are no 2008 advertised, only 2005-2007, various mileage, ranging from $30k to $60k

Don't really want to let go, but don't want it to sit around while I work out of town either.

Thoughts?

If fully sorted and paid for, why not keep it? If resigned to selling, Bring a Trailer is likely your best bet. Just don’t let them bully you into a low reserve, and don’t let the comments get to you.

08 55’s and 65’s are BY FAR the most rare. I have an 08 55 and it’s 1 of 464; the numbers on 65’s are I believe less than half that with about 200 imported that year.

The car is fully deprecated and will likely go up in value over time. If you don’t need the money keep it (and enjoy it several days a week as it must be driven) you’ll be ahead of the game in the long run. My $.02

I cannot argue with this point as I also have a SL65 (2005) but in the case of OP's car and mine with ~100k miles isn't it safe to assume high mileage cars would be less collectible than the lower mileage examples? Maybe as the V12 is fully halted and the production #s are so low any well maintained version is better than none at all. Interested in your thoughts.

The production numbers were low because consumers were not buying them. No demand so there was little supply.

Nobody can predict the future. The fact that production numbers in 2008 were low due to demand infers that buyers at that time were clairvoyant. I don’t ascribe to that view. Instead real value is realized over time, sometimes that means many decades.

All I know is these 2 seaters, both the 55 and 65, are truly unique/incredible cars by ANY objective yardstick you chose to apply. WAY ahead of their time. If I had one (and I do) I’m holding on to it for dear life.

Right, so my 2008 SL 65 AMG is 1 of 120 for the US Market (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post2545293)
But it is approaching 100,000 miles and is not in mint condition.

So the question is, what is the value now (+ set mint oem wheels) vs what could the value be in 20+ year?

I suggest you do a search on BAT and look through the available (42) SL65 auction results. Since these are completed auctions and not ask prices, it will give you a pretty good idea of where your vehicle stands on the retail side. It will also give you more than a few ideas on how to present your car for sale, regardless of platform.

If it were me, I would keep it.

100,000 mile Mercedes don’t ever seem to be valuable, especially V12 ones. I have a garage full of Mercedes amg higher mileage cars that aren’t worth a whole bunch, even though they are all operational. The question is how much is it going to cost in the next 20 years to maintain that beast? Repair shop owners send their kids to college from V12 repair bills😳
Keep it if you like it

The one that sold yesterday (2005, 95k miles, $26k) on BaT was a decent price for the Seller.
