Hi folks. Adding to my shelter-in-place list. Can anyone point me to the lubrication points for the top mechanism? Also, what lubricant is preferred? Thanks in advance!
I am eager to see the expert responses on this one. Would also like to know the lube of choice. Wondering if LPS-2 is a good choice.

Does anyone have information or a resource for this? TIA.

locks dont know, look if lube is on them, but more important is lube all rubber connected to roof and trunk, Most have experienced knock knock sounds when driving, this goes away if lube up all rubber seals , is special oil for this, small bottle you buy at Mercedes center.
Dave - I hope LPS2 is a good choice as I just did all the points on my top with it. LPS2 is a popular aviation lubricant and we use it on all manner of connections that are much more critical than a vario roof hinge.
Tommyboy928 - I agree about the rubber seals, there are a lot of them with this roof and for all my cars have always used Silicone spray lube to keep them pliable.

The lube at the Mercedes dealership is about $65. The alternative is a german product called Gummi Pflege which is available for about $14 at Autogeek. As for hinges, the recommended product is white lithium grease in a spray. It's available at most auto parts stores.
I found the recommended grease is Krytox and it is $50-60-70 but the equivalent to that is ; Ultimox 226 which is about $30, on ebay

I looked at Ultimox 226 and it appears to be a paste sold in a jar and used for weather strips, gaskets, etc. I can't see this being the recommended lubricant for the various metal joints in the top mechanism. I too am curious what the officially recommended product is for the various joints in the top structure.Originally Posted by okbarnett
