ABC Suspension Strut Replacement Dealer Issues...

I had the dealership do the left front strut replacement on my 2005 SL65 (it was throwing codes C1525-001, C1525-002 and C1525-064) After a few months, the whole system is sitting low and leaking hydraulic fluid. I have attached the RO from the dealer that shows what work was done and what the tech stated in the notes.

I spoke to a third party MB repair shop (the tech spent 14 years in NYC working on AMG and V12 cars) he stated that they should have replaced the filter (part 003-184-6101) and because they didn't it likely caused damage to the pump and other parts of the system resulting in the current problem.

I've found bulletins online and they all mention replacing the filter when flushing the system:

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w22...0&d=1368299937

Can anyone verify this as I am not looking forward to repair bill the dealership quoted me if this is in fact their fault for not replacing the filter when flushing the system.

Thanks for you help guys!

It seems you have one of two routes to go here. You can either go to your independent specialist and have them verify, in writing, that was indeed the issue, and go back-and-forth between the dealer and the specialist to get it remedied, or go back to the dealership, deal with the service manager, and see if they will admit culpability.

There is no need to flush the oil or perform a Rodeo as part of replacing a strut and hoses. It seems to me the tech literally did what he wrote when he stated he "exchanged the oil". That would not call for a filter change.

I believe another problem is that a filter in poor condition probably can not cause damage to the system.

Another factor against you is time. Since several months have elapsed, the dealer likely will reply that there was time for a lot of things to happen in that period which were detrimental to the pump.

By the way, my local independent could have done this repair for under $2000. That includes parts and labor.
