09-12 Head Unit Backwards Compatible With Older R230?

Is a newer style 09-12 head unit plug and play for the older R230's (03-08)? My 2005 head unit has spots and I am looking to upgrade the interior anyways, this one looks a little more modern different style buttons and was included in cars as late as 2012.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/09-12-R230-...ry!75061!US!-1

Has anyone done this or know if it is possible? Thanks in advance

Yes, there is a company in Miami that can make it so it is a direct install. You will need to do the research.

Why not just get an android head unit? Cheaper, and touchscreen with apple play. Tavarish on youtube installed one on his sl55 that looks oem if youre trying to make it look factory.

That's what I just got done doing few weeks ago. Seicane unit, pulled CD and old amp out. Replaced with new amp, new 2way speakers in door, and 6x9s behind rear seats. So much better. My old oem setup never sounded right to me. This was a huge improvement. I think all in around $800.

I don't know why you would actually spend money to "upgrade" to a 2009 unit, because it's still not very good. I would go with either one of the knockoff Android units or a new double DIN aftermarket unit with a dash kit.

I guess I've heard of other having trouble with those knock-off Android units I wanted to keep it as close to OEM as possible 1 for looks and 2 for function.

Previous owner already installed bluetooth so I'm good to go there, it's just that my (plasma?) screen has developed spots over the years. In thinking about replacement I think I will have to decide between the Tavarish screen or just upgrade/replace existing screen.

The tavarish screen is nice, retains that oem look, but stilll small for modern day usage. I would personally go for the larger screen alpine units
