I'm guessing the dealer won't even try to reprogram an old card key like this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Mercede...5/333395744575
Is it something I can do with STAR/DAS ?
Are there locksmiths that can do it?
Any idea why the prices on eBay for them range from $40 TO $230?

I've read the posts here, "DIY: Keyless Go upgrade for '03 models equipped with the Keyless Go 'card'" and "Learning new keyless-go" but I'm wondering if getting an old card is more reliable or easier.

well, the question is, can we reprogram a used key
that is NO
but, you can transfer the security chip from your broken key to the one from ebay. soldering

Hmmmm... so I never got the card when I bought the car.... but I have the normal keys.... but I'm guessing the chip in those keys are not compatible with the card style key.

Guess I'll work up the courage to try the "DIY KG..." process... someday :-)

If you find a good car locksmith he does not need the original car to create you a KG integrated key
he can takeover the data from your old key
