Front Spoiler / Air Dam / Splitter

What experiences have been had with adding a front spoiler / air dam / splitter? Not sure if looking "cool" is worth scratching the hell out of it on a curb.

2007 SL55

I have a cf front lip and my car is lowered via links with 20” rims. I think I scraped the bottom one time? The scrapes are not visible as they are under the car
