Removing Dip Stick tube from Upper Oil Pan

Hello All,
I am fixing an oil leak on my 2003 SL55 AMG. I have dropped the front axle assembly and have the lower pan off. I am having an issue getting the upper oil pan off because I can't get the dip stick tube out. Has anyone else run into this issue.... and how did you solve it? Got the tube loose from the back of the head and it is out of the upper pan wear it passes through the grommet. Just scratching my head on this one.
Thanks
Mark

I realize this is super late for you, Mark, but I figured it might be helpful if you want to try tackling it again, or for anyone else stuck at this point.
You just need to cut off a section of the tube from the bottom, and you'll have enough room to wiggle the tube free after that. I used a tiny pipe cutter to avoid throwing sparks and getting a mess inside the bottom end of the engine. Cutting the bottom of the tube off is the only possible way to remove the dipstick tube without removing the cylinder head instead.

I didnt measure it, to be honest, but this should give ya a good idea. If you pull the dipstick up as high as you can and then make a mark on it from underneath, just cut it a tiny bit above your mark and you'll be good to go.

This is the view directly from beneath. There is still more than plenty of the straight piece of tubing for the dipstick to remain straight.

This is what the dipstick looks like out of the car. Not really important, but i took a picture anyway so here it is.

Well..... I ended going a little different route.
I cut the dip stick tube about 3" inches above where it enters the upper oil pan.
I purchase some 7/16" ID gas hose and clamped it back in place.
I considered the cutting the lower part of the tube before I saw you post..... just opted for the other.
Who knows.... may pull the engine out next winter for cleaning of the engine bay... if so I will replace the dip stick tube,
Thanks,
Mark
