2009 SL63 buying guide
Haven't been to this forum for a while. I used to have a 2004 SL55 which I absolutely loved until the cost of ownership stopped making sense primarily due to ABC maintenance. Pumps, shocks, valve blocks, condensers, the whole nine yards. I then jumped ship to Porsches but always missed the 230 SL. I recently came upon a 2009 that brought back some nostalgia and at it's price and mileage I am considering getting one to keep in the garage. I am not interested in later models as they frankly don't appeal to me visually and I am also not particularly interested in the earlier models because of their known ABC issues. The question to you is whether the 2009s improved in reliability of ABC, have there been any advances in replacing the system? I remember there was someone working on swapping out the ABC for coil overs but since I sold the car, my interest in that went away as well. What is your experience with these years of the SL in terms of reliability of components, especially considering the age of the car, am I crazy to be considering it?
