ABS, ESP inoperative See Oper. Manual

I've searched this issue but don't seem to find one specifically for an R230. This is very intermittent and I haven't noticed anything specific why it would come on. When it happens, I can still drive the car but I do notice the steering is a bit stiffer. I can usually shut the car off and let it sit for a bit and when I re-start the car the warning is gone. I used a OBDI scanner today but showed no codes. I'm thinking sensor, or something of that nature, but don't really know where to look. Thank you for any direction.

Sometimes happens if new battery or if battery has been disconnected too long. Turn full lock left then full lock right to reset (or other direction).

Any other thoughts concerning this situation? It has happened several times (as recently as yesterday) since my initial post. I prefer not to bring to my local indie and fix myself if possible.

Just sold my '11 Porsche TurboS cab for an '03 SL55!
The two systems are interrelated in that ESP (Stability) uses the ABS (braking) to function. My guess is an ABS issue. Could be as simple as wheel speed sensor, but I also see a lot of these cars with failed ABS pump/module including mine. Best to have it checked with a STAR diagnostic setup which should point you to the correct part.
Turning the car off just forces it to find the fault again and that's why I think it "goes away".
Let us know what you find.

I had a similar issue with my CL and it was a wheel speed sensor. I checked with my OBDII reader and it told me the specific code and location of the faulty sensor.
