No they are not.

I believe the SL600 and SL55 use the same brakes but the SL65 has two piece larger rotors. I don't know if the calipers are the same size.

SL65 Brakes

Hello Gabri

There is a difference in the front brakes;

The SL55/600 are using 14.17" perforated and internally ventilated front discs with AMG 8-piston fixed type calipers and 13.0" internally ventilated rear discs with AMG 4-piston fixed type calipers

The SL65 is using AMG-enhanced compound brakes. 15.4" front discs with AMG 8-piston calipers and 13.7" rear discs with AMG 4-piston calipers.

kind regards from France

Walter

Nice pics, are they from your car? Is that at your home or does your mechanic allow you to watch/inspect your car while it is being service?

I would think that the material used for the 65 disks are more hard wearing, do the pads/disks appear to be more durable than a 55?

From the heat markings I see you're using the braking system as it was intended, Walter

SL 65 Break

Hello Treynor
Hello Twinturbo

Yes this are my front breaks - and the pictures have been taken at my MB Workshop. I did not change the pads on my SL before - so I have really no idea about the durability of the pads/rotors. (sorry)

The disks are not looking that bad - the colour you see on those - are reflections of the floor etc... (I was surprised as well - and had a second look on my discs... )

I am not driving that fast - therefore an easy life for my breaks in general. (only a few turns on a race track with average speed).

Kind regards from France

Walter

PS.; next week the rotors will get replaced by new ones - cause there is a slight vibration when using them at low speeds.
