SL55 Gas Mileage

I'm looking for typical gas mileage numbers on SL55's - primarily from drivers in US. Can't find anything newer than a couple of threads from late 2002 on this forum.

I'm in the UK, and consistently get 19-20 and 22 on a long run, but our gallons are bigger and the octane rating is higher, so you will probably find it's more likely to be mid-teens in the US. Does depend on how heavy you are with your right foot.

SL55 Mileage

I don't do much urban driving, so I can't comment on mileage in that environment. I get about 17 on suburban and twisty rural roads if I'm not pushing it, and about 20 at a constant 80 mi/hr on the freeway with the top up.

When you're really on the throttle, it really sucks down the gas, as you'd expect from the mass of the vehicle and the output of the engine.

I get around 15mpg around town and 19-20 on the highway. At the track I have managed 6.8...and proud of it!!

Have a great day!

15 doing suburban driving, short freeway hops.

20 or 21 for long distance steady speed (60 or 80 mph makes no difference to mpg).

Around 15 mpg on local roads. Around 21 - 22 mpg on highways as long as I keep below 80 mph...heh.

7 mpg when my favorite songs are playing

City, between 12 - 15; highway 18 - 19 most commonly.

Also, would a chip [such as Renntech/PowerChip] actually increase the mpg? If so, how much?

It's been 5 years since the last post on this topic. What is your average MPG on a single tank of fuel?

My numbers are pretty much like the folks reported back in '04: 14-15 mpg in town, 19-20 on extended expressway cruising.

You're doing well. I don't keep a record of city/highway but the long term average is 20 miles per Imperial gallon (UK) which is 16.7 miles per US gallon and that's with more than half highway driving. I think cold starts, short journeys and city driving really brings the average down.

I think it's the short journeys that kill things. I usually have the screen up that gives the trip miles, mpg, avg speed on the dash, and on very short trips it can be as low as 4-5mpg.

I average around 14.5 mpg in the city and 20.9 on the freeway. One time I saw 23.8 mpg on the backroads but was behind a Sheriff doing 45 mph.

Thank the person you see driving a Prius or Smart car because for every gallon of gas they save is an extra gallon of gas we can burn in our 55's.
