This may qualify as the dumb dipstick question of all times, but is it ok to drive around with the dipstick in ?
I still don't understand why Mercedes feels a dipstick is unnecessary, "oil level ok" does not give me confidence but anyway. That is my dumb question.
If the car came with a little plug on the dipstick tube, I would drive it this way. When you do an oil change, you put in about 8.5-9 quarts and the thing is full, then when checking after driving and shut off for 5 minutes, if it says oil level "ok" then it's good. If it is low, the car will tell you, or if it's got too much, it will also tell you. I know it seems weird. I think they just want people to bring the car to the dealer so they can charge you astronomical amounts for an oil change. I would not drive the car with a dipstick in it, if it came without one.
