Gumball 3000 SL55 AMG was mine!!
Hello Guys,
This is my first post, although some of you may have seen me in the Gumball 3000 SL55 AMG clip.
To answer a few questions. We were flying down the freeway at 170+ (no it has not been de-restricted!!) and flew past the blue Audi S4. He was doing 120+. We both went past a cop, and so I slowed down to wait for the Audi. What I was saying was" if you get pulled over by a cop, get rid/hide the video tape. And than I was off!! The boys in the S4 were pulling 80mph is when I took off.
I've driven every sort of fast car made ( at present i own a 996 GT2, 550M and an M5 + SL55) but the SL55 is simply the fastest thing that i have ever driven. We did 3778 mile in the Gumball coast to coast and it was the dream motor. I'll post the other vid's of us dusting 996 TT's and all sorts of Ferrari's(including 180mph on the hard shoulder!!)evn the F50 was out accellerated!
I'll get the other vid's posted and speak to you all daily.

Cool. I downloaded all your Videos from another site, and have a quetion for your regarding the speedo in your SL55. Why does it max out when the speedo-needle points upwards? Didn't they change the scale to an mph-scale so it max out at 170 mph or something like that but the speedo grading still goes to 300?

Oh.........and by the way, it's for sale.
It arrives back here on Saturday. It will have a front end re-spray (by MB) it got a bit sand blasted!!
£90k. (one careful owner,.....and me!)

Ah, so you bought the Left Hand Drive version specifically for the Gumball 3000?

Does anyone know if I can put 10" wheels on it ? Mercedes are not sure ?

Yes, Renntech has a 19" fitment for the car that is 9" in front and 11" in rear. They look awsome. Also incredibly light, which improves the already good suspension and braking characteristics. If you tell me where you are, I can tell you where to ask for them!

No, Renntech does not have any retail outlets in the UK, but we could quite easily ship a set to you if you decided to go with them. Pictures and specifications could be sent to you. Now, in my opinion, the size of wheels that we fit on these cars should stop somewhere. As good as the larger wheels may look, 19" wheels will not detract from the performance of the car, but as I'm sure you know, sidewall on a tire is necessary for grip and forgiveness in a corner. We actually do all of our testing with 18" wheels, because we generally get better results in all categories with them. For this reason, Renntech will not make a 20" fitment for a car, our commitment to peformance will not allow us to do that.
