Angry Dual Pulley Bolt Stripped

Need advice where i can source this bolt. Apparently when i bought this used 04 SL55 someone upgraded the pulley and they stripped it when installing it. It was over tightened and i had a hell of a time getting it out. Please let me know if anyone can help.

Wow that's amazing, glad you got it out, so now you just need a new bolt? I would certainly think a Mercedes dealership parts department could source one for you. Probably not cheap, but how much could a bolt cost? Maybe around $30 USD but I doubt much more than that. Good luck. Your dual pulley might not be an upgrade, but possibly a replacement for the original that wore out; they can certainly do that after approximately 75-90K miles. On my SL55, I got all new pulleys, including the dual idler pulley and the crank pulley along with new belts tensioners and water pump and thermostat, plus a new alternator last year. All new and all correct parts, no cheap non-Mercedes or non-Bosch parts! That idler pulley cost over $700 and so did the crank pulley. I think the water pump and alternator were each around $300. At least, on the SL55 AMG, those are the "worst" one can expect with this engine, as opposed to the V12s with turbo coolant lines that will wear out and begin leaking, or the giant coilpacks that will need rebuilds. So..." it can always be worse"!

Im not looking for a lot of hp but here in colorado the air is thin and adding as much air as possible is a must lol. Thanks for the post back and great car!

Important to look at the belts while running, see that they ride perfectly on the pulleys and don't look like they're misaligned. The big pulley at the bottom, crank pulley, has a molded rubber insert that can deform after 20 years and lots of miles, causing belts to not ride correctly. That crank pulley cost over $700 from MBZ. Luckily I shopped the world over and found one from a Benz dealership for $495 and the bolt needs to be new also, that cost about $29. Any time you have your belts off check ALL pulleys for wear signs, including the water pump!!! Mine, the bearings in the water pump were like a gravel road. Feels great knowing my water pump is a brand new Bosch.

I would be okay trusting Bilstein. My engineer mechanics were able to find a genuine MBZ dual pulley that "retails" from MBZ for 700, at a cost of about $300 they said. Car is happy! And... VERY fast. Drives like absolutely nothing else!!!
