Very odd, I changed my oil today and only about 4 - 4.5 qt came out. WOW! I believe spec is 9qt......and that's what I put in.
I never received any "Add Oil" messages.
There are no oil leaks, and I check it fairly often via the cluster.......always ok.
I put about 8k miles on since the last change, which was just after I bought the car, as I recall it was about the right amount that came out then.
Any one experience this?
Sounds like a bad oil level sender. Any way to trouble-shoot that? Where's it located?
Maybe I should get a dip stick too..........anyone use one? And where did you source it?
Thanks in advance.

Buy a manual dipstick, I wouldn't trust the oil level sensor.

It might be worthwhile to have a mechanic or a dealer do a compression test on the engine. Do you notice any unusual smoke in the exhaust, especially when accelerating?

I think question #1 is the most important.

Here is an example dipstick. It doesn't work like what you are used to, it doesn't fit flush. I think the correct level is 170mm on the stick

There I reposted it. Good job not running the engine. When I did my first oil change it literally took the exact amount it calls for.

Hi Iceclimber7, did you intend to attach a link to the dipstick?

Hi streborx - no smoke makes tons of power. this was pure operator error in than I forgot to drain the rear pan. I might have noticed, but I didn't really pay attention to the level in my drain pan until I was done and pouring the old oil into the empty jugs. Good thing I didn't run it as it now has about 13-14 qts. in it. Guess I'll drain all of and start over. About a $50 error ...... ugg.
