My 2004 Mercedes Benz SL500

I bought this 2004SL500 few years ago from a private guy. The car looked nice inside and out side but with a few cracks on the lower part of the front bumper (which I did not notice it before buying it) My adult son did but did not think it was important for a deal breaker. Mainly because the car looked amazing well cared for without dents scratches and the engine also looked good very clean and sounded sound. Of course after a while the car started to have issues with the ABC system, no oil leaks of any kind or fluidsI saw on the floor or anywhere else to the present time. So I know I have to replace the accumulators very possibly even though I still can figure out how many the car has. I’ve done some investigation and found that some say 2 others 3 or 4 😵‍💫 I will do the work myself including the cracked bumper. So the car has been parked. Now I’m asking if anyone has an idea of what this part name is and what it controls. A big a rat was living in the engine bay and chew off the wires of this thing. If anyone knows and would like to share the knowledge I will be very appreciative. Also I know I will be asking for more help when I start to replace the accumulators. Thanks and happy Wednesday!

This part is located on the drivers side near the back of the left front headlight.

Accumulators can be bought from FCPeuro online, they will know how many the car has. That thing under the hood with the wires, I have no idea what that is, sorry!

Your car has two primary accumulators, one return accumulator and one pulsation dampener. One primary is in front of the left (US driver side) front wheel; the pulsation dampener is behind the left front wheel. The other primary accumulator is in front of the left front wheel; the return accumulator is also there, but many don't bother with it and it is an extra pain to replace.

The R230 section of this forum is much more active and has at least a dozen relatively recent threads on the ABC system:

As mentioned FCP Euro is the best source of these parts; some are even sold as "kits" with replacement fluid.

That unidentified item is the receiver/dryer for the AC system. Wires are for a sensor which detects refrigerant pressure.

Good advice from mvedit above. I just did this job minus the return one, so three parts (2 accumulators, 1 pulse) replaced, no more problems. One thing I would have done differantly is to make sure and plug the lines when it's apart. Makes for less mess.
