SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL65 Noisy Brakes
My car squeaks a bit in the cold but with all the stopping power I don't mind. It is way worse with ceramic brakes on my GT3.
How do you like the car? Your just about through the break-in, the fun is about to start......

Hello Schiz
I had this noise, indeed - in the running in periode as well. After 2000 miles ( about 3500 km) it disapeard completely. BUT there was this issue with the discs which have been faulty in a different way ( vibration when braking at low speeds)
This issue was solved when they changed all the discs on the car (different material now) on warranty at about 22.000 km.
kind regards
Walter
Hello Walter
Thanks for the info I'll let it go a while to see if the noise goes away,
before I let the dealer touch it
I love the car but,
I miss the exhaust sound my 04 SL55 had. I'm trying to figure
how to make the SL65 sound better The mufflers look the same
on both cars but have different part numbers.
Any ideas would be appreciated

It is very hard to please you, this I have to tell you !
You got some more noise on your brakes - you do not want them
You got some less noise on your exhaust - you do not want this either.....
JUST KIDDING...
Ok, some explenation to the sound issue ..
The SL55 is an V8 with compressor - means the air will be compressed by a roots charger - and this is driven by a belt ! The exhaust is normal as any other natural aspirated engine.
The SL65 is a V12 with turbocharger - means the exhaust gas is used to make the charger rotate, to compress the intake air. Of course a part of the sound got lost in the turbocharger ....
Sorry - I tried to explain this with my poor English - I hope you understand what I want to tell you
IMO the sound of the SL65 is not that bad - it is just different to the SL55...
kind regards
Walter

Your English is fine
I totally understand what your saying
I just feel it could sound better, despite the exhaust having to pass
through the turbos

The Eisenmann's look great. I was speaking to a friend of mine who imports parts for people and also has a set on his M5. He wasn't all that certain I'd see any performance benefits out of putting a set on my SL55, especially as the factory mufflers are built by Sebring and are a straight through design. Do happen to know if there is a genuine performance gain or is it just a change in exhaust note?
thanks
thanks
Are SL65 factory mufflers a straight through design also?
The 55 & 65 mufflers look the same, but have different part numbers
Would you know how I could contact this Sebring company
so I could find out the difference on the inside of the mufflers
Thanks Lucky

This is an Austrian company and reachable on their website www.sebring.at - in FOUR languages ... even English ....
I had a look already - but I think the website is outdated

I couldn't tell you if the SL65 factory units are also a straight through design. I imagine being such a new model few people have had a chance to examine them closely. I'm sure a good exhaust shop could take a look for you and work out what type the are..
Where did listen to the sound file at

Pity I'm now told a set of these babies would set me back $A3000 a each side. So much for that. I was advised I could accomplish a sound improvement by removing the precats instead. I don't really want to hack up the stock exhaust on this car though..

Lucky, for some sound clips you can go to www.eisenhaus.com. They're the authorized retailer/distributor for Eisenmann exhausts(aka my wholesaler).
