SL's in London

I was in London for the long holiday weekend and I was surprised to see quite a few SL's on the road! I even saw them in the countryside (about 2 hours east of Central London). None of them had any badges on except for one silver/black SL55. I have yet to see that many SL's running around in the NY/NJ area on a weekend.

Lots of people driving Continental GT's and Porsche Turbo as well.

Not only that, you probably also noticed that we have something here called electricity where a light comes on when you press a button! Gosh, just think of that!

Seriously, the UK is MB's #3 market after the US and Germany and we also have the SL350. I expect quite a few of the de-badged cars were SL350s. Depending on where you are in London, SLs are a pretty common sight. Exclusivity is not part of the deal when you buy an MB.

I was staying in the Kensington/Chslelsea area. Yeah, I would guess a lot of the debadged SL's were 350s. I only saw 1 55 though.

...........actually there are quite a few SL's around. I am suprised you don't see that many in NY/NJ area. Here in Atlanta, there a fair number of them. I think for the wealthy, buying an SL simplifies the decision making process as to which car to get. It is a high end car, looks very nice, is a convertible as well as a hard top, you have all the electronic gimmics such as comand, and voice activated phone etc. Unfortunately this means that there many of them around.

I can assure you that there are many SLs in the NY/NJ area. Part of the reason you don't see that many out an about in NY/NJ on the weekend now is that we are in the middle of winter. Many will not drive the SL in inclement weather, and I for one can vouch for the fact that it is terrible in the snow (at least with the tires that came with the car).

In a month or two you will see many more.

I must live in the ghetto in Phx., because there are zero SLs or SL55/65s anywhere around me. But when I go to North Scottsdale they are like Honda Civics! I guess that's just a good reason to drive a Ferrari and outsnob those Scottsdale snobs!!

I live in the Almaden Valley of San Jose (not exactly a rich area). My neighbor two doors down has an SL55 and another neighbor a block up the hill has another. There is another one about a mile away!

...........this is exactly the case. When MB introduced the SL55, they said it will be sold in limited numbers. Well, that obviously is not the case. As expensive as these cars are, they found everywhere. Same thing is happening with the CLS......essentially, there is no limited production of any mercedes benz vehicle, period. If you have the funds, you can get one.......infact you can get as many as you wish. There is no artificial ceiling in the number of cars produced. Not even the Maybach or SLR. Those cars are relatively hard to spot because of their price not an artificial ceiling in number of units produced.
