The massage seats (both driver and passenger) in my SL are not working. Have been to the dealer twice for the issue. The first time I didn't realize it was both seats and they changed a valve in the driver's seat. For some reason the system worked for a day. Brought the car back in, now knowing it was both seats, and they said it was the pump. I don't if the changed the pump or if they just cleaned the connections. The seats still did not work correctly, the massage would shut off after one or two minutes. Now the massage will not come on at all. The issue is no matter what mode of massage is selected it just drops back to the off position for either seat. This is the same behavior that has occurred since the first time I took the car in. Before I bring it back can anyone tell me if they had this issue and what the fix was? To me it appears it is some sort of electrical issue.
If it is the pump, and that's a big if, changing it out is very easy. I had the same issue on my SL550. The MB dealership diagnosed it as a faulty pneumatic pump. I bought another one, it wasn't the pump. Car has less than 10,000 miles so it's a head scratcher. Good luck on the diagnosis, if it turns out to be the pump I can walk you through changing it out and I'm no mechanic.

Thanks for the reply and offer to help. So yours was never fixed? Did you have the same symptom; select a massage mode, hit the select button and then the mode just goes back to off? It exhibits the same behavior for both seats. Is your SL a 13? I have about 38K on mine.

Yes, it's a 2013, still under 10, same symptonms; I'd select a setting, it would change for a moment then reset to 0. Tomorrow I'm driving two hours to a reputable indie that has the same scanner as the dealer. We'll see if they can fix the problem. I'll keep you posted. Keep in mind, my dealer told me I needed a new pneumatic pump...and I don't. They misdiagnosed it, which is concerning on a couple of levels.
That said, I love the car and can live without the dynamic/massaging seats. I'm trying to decide what my price/pain threshold is on the repair...
JRupp, Wow only 10K on a 13! I assume it's just a weekender. I had a 95 SL500 before this one and didn't drive it a lot. It resulted in a lot of dried out rings on the pneumatic systems. I decided that I would drive the new one and not worry about the mileage for the next owner. Don't get me wrong, I take very good care of the car and the seats are the only problem. When clean it looks brand new. I still don't drive it in bad weather and probably not as much as average. I'm in the Dallas, TX area. I don't know where you are but if you're close and the indie does a good job let me know their name and contact info. It will be the first time the car was in a shop other than MB.
have issue also, driver side seat dont work massage seat, but dynamic function work , lumbar support work, is it more than one pump for this seats or what ? been in Dubai , maybe sand in air hoses ?
