New owner has question

All,

I just got my SLK320 last week, and I wondered about the driver and passenger windows. When I put them down, appx 1/8 inch of the glass sticks up above the weatherstripping. Is this normal or do the windows need to be adjusted?

Thanks

Shaummy

On my '99 SLK 230, that is normal.

Yes, it's normal. It's actually an improvement over the '98-'00 models, which stick up more than 1/4" when the windows are fully lowered.

Question Rear window glass

Hi everybody, I just bought a '99 slk 230 and I love it. :-) I was able to pick it up hardly used (3,500 miles) in Boston.

I'm in New England right now and well the weather can get pretty cold and I was wondering if anyone has had any problems putting the top down when the weather is cold (below freezing). On some earlier convertibles I was always told you shouldn't put it down because it was more likely to shatter when the temp. drops. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. Thanks.

Sounds like an old wive's tale to me. The only problem you should have when putting the top down at those temps is frostbite.

CLK320
I had a '99 Black SLK230 and loved it. I did have a problem when I was in Palm Springs one time. The top wouldn't go down. The trunk would open, but the top wouldn't unlock and allow it to go into the trunk. I heard it was a problem with the earlier models. They were equiped with faulty microswitches. I had them replaced under warranty and had no problems with it. I just recently traded it in on a '02 CLK320.....nice car but still miss that convertible!!

I'm also now experiencing the dubious joys of New England weather. I've had the top up/down many times down to about 30 degress with no problems. I'm not sure if MB recommends it, but it seems to work OK. My top is even a little heavier than stock as I added viscoelastic sound dampening material to the sheet metal above the headliner (SLK into an S classs as far as noise & vibration goes).

This is a real concern on convertibles with plastic windows but not glass.

I just got my 230 last week . I couldn't be happier! but I'm a little confused about the remote locks. I can't seem to get them to work. I can unlock all the doors, trunk and gas cap, but locking them doesn't work. The centre mounted lock button doesn't seem to work either. Am I doing something wrong? I've flipped through the manual and there seem to be a ton of qualifiers to get it to work. The factory alarm comes on, but nothing actually locks. I have to do it manually. I've already called the dealership, so they're expecting me back, but I'm just wondering if its something I'm doing wrong.

I was out in my SLK320 this morning with the roof down (-2 deg celcius). No probs and I dont recall any warnings in the manual about operation temperatures of the roof.

Seriously, MA folk... get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather... the sun is out, the snow is on the ground... it's better than the summer!!!
