Hello, new here, couple questions....
I'm looking for a SLK for a fun car/almost daily driver, and from what I can find it seems that they have a ton of electrical issues. Is this true ?
What years are the best to look at ? Anything in particular I need to make sure has been done or checked ?
How are the generally on maint ?
Are there any other gremlins that abound with the SLK's ?

Some things to think about when looking for an SLK,
Before 2001 the only engine in the US available was the 2.3L Kompressor. This can add more maintenance issues. The V6 added performance and is a more widely used engine in the Mercedes line up. The body had a facelift around this same time. The side blinkers moved off of the fenders and on to the side mirrors.
There are a lot of switches in the top that can go bad so check the operation of the top out.
Listen for rattles coming from the underside of the car. Mainly the exhaust is a problem with all Benzes. The catalytic convertors are a source for a problem. Get then checked and changed before the 8 year 80K mile manditory exhaust warenty runs out.

The 2002 should be better at holding it's value because it is basically the same as the last edition of the R170. No significant changes were made in the final years after the facelift.
