trunk left panel

I have a 2001 SLK 320 I just bought. What goes under the panel that comes off of the left side of the trunk? I removed it and there is just velcro strapes and some wires. Is that why my alarm isn't working?

The wires might be for a phone module. The PSE unit is on the right side an it controls the locks and the alarm system.

My 2001 320 has integrated phone and voice-activation. There are modules for these under the left trunk panel held in by the velcro. They are included in the fiber loop for the head unit and CD changer.
