Changing Analog phone to Digital

I have a 1998 SLK 230 which came with an analog phone installed when I bought it new. Has anyone been able to convert that Motorola phone to a digital phone and retain any of the custom installed features of the factory phone? Using an analog phone is not longer reasonable and having hands-free is almost mandatory.

I think the answer is no. All mercedes audio systems are designed to use only one phone, so if you wanted to go to a digital phone and have integration with the audio system, you would need to replace the entire audio system with one from a newer model.

Here's how they went
'98: Motorola mobile analog
'99: Motorola Startac analog (easy retrofit of Startac digital)
'00: Motorola Startac digital
'01: Motorola Timeport digital (kit required to retrofit V60)
'02: Motorola Timeport digital or V60 digital
'03: Motorola V60 digital.

I don't think it's reasonable to replace the audio system, but I'm sure a stereo shop could rig up a hands-free kit that would mute the audio system when the phone is in use and allow you to use the existing microphone and speakers for hand-free operation. This would allow you to use any phone you want.
