Stay in the low 30's for the offset and you can do 17" or 18". I would not go any larger than 18" or your tire size profile starts to get bad.
Most 17" are ET35 or ET37 and 18" are 31 or 34. It depends on the width and if you are staggaring the sizes front front to back. The width will be in the 7" to 8.5", possibly 9" in back.
Match what the SLK32 has for sizes and it will work.
