SLK/R170 new remote key & starting problems

new remote key & starting problems

Hi i have a 1998 slk 230.
I purchased new remote with key, it was synchorized to car and was working fine. Now it will lock & unlock car fine but will only cause the engine to turn over maybe 2 or 3 times, then it stops. My original remote & key starts car fine.
Any Ideas ???

Check the battery under the hood.
They are only good for 4 to 5 years.

Sounds like yours is dead.

Call the service number in the glove box they will come out and install it for $100.00.

The FOB has an RFID for starting

Where did you purchase the remote? The RFID must be programmed to match yourt car. It can only be programmed once. The RFID is separate from the remote lock transmitter.

the remote & key where purchased thru a Mercedes dealer, they needed the Vin # to get it made.It did work when we first got it, but now will turn over motor for a couple of turns, then it just stops.
