Need Help - Replaced MAF, now Loss of power/hesitation (2000 SLK230 with 70K miles)

With my old MAF, car drove fine but the CE light comes on. Cleaning the MAF fixes the problem for a while, then back to the same old thing...Installed an after market new MAF, now my car runs very poorly with hesitation and poor shifts. Could it be a bad MAF, or do I need some form of calibrartion on the new MAF ? Any resources on calibration if that's needed ? Any help will be appreciated - this is driving me crazy!!!

Aftermarket MAF??? I didn't know there was such a thing. What brand is it?

I think it is aftermarket since it only has the part #0 280 217 114 on it and no mfg logo or name. I bought it in eBay for about $120.00. It says it's new and it even smells new!

I had a problem with an ebay MAF. Just like you..The sensor had a different number (bit held in with 2 screws). Seller was Luckynat.
Open yours and check sensor number the same.

I returned unit and the ***** didnt refund my money!!!

the ebay m.a.f are for a 4cyl. vw ,made by bosch . this is a industry trade not so secret . we buy them 40 to 50$ a hell of a lot cheaper than the m.b . unit . But the sensor insert its self is the same part used in most bosch meters . they just use a housing to fit the car builders need . these inserts work fine 95% of the time. we do get bad new parts from every one sometimes though.
