Unhappy auto shifting when cold

My wife drives a 1999 SLK 230K automatic with 50000 miles on it. She has noticed that now the winter cold has arrived (U.K. cold, not Alaskan!) the car is taking longer to shift up than usual until the car warms up, then everything seems normal. She is not accelerating hard, but the car revs up to about 4k before it shifts. Has anyone else had this problem, or knows what could be causing it to happen.

Thanks
Gordo

It's called 'delayed shifting' and it is by design. The idea is that by holding the car in gear a little bit longer, the car warms up quicker. It's programmed into the ECU.
