Angry Stupidity

I've lost the ONLY key to my car, and I'm starting to wonder if I accidentally locked it in the trunk of my car. I knew when I bought the car and it only came with on key, I would be in deep poo later down the road. :-(

I've spent the last few days going through my laundry, checking EVERY possible place they could be, and the only scenario I've come up with is that I closed my driver's door, opened my trunk, hit lock, removed some stuff out while dropping my key, and closing the trunk. Is this even possible?

I have zero deductible on glass, so I thought about breaking a window out, but I realized I don't have access to the trunk. I've owned 3 SLKs and I've never done this before (on any of my 25 previous vehicles for that matter), does the button inside that locks the doors HAPPEN to unlock the trunk as well? My guess is NO, but its worth a shot.

At this point, I'm looking at taking my title to the dealership, having a key made, taking the key and opening the car so I can get it out of park, and have it towed to the dealer to get the key programmed to the car.

Spare me the lectures on the importance of a spare key and double checking to make sure the key is in my hand when the car is locked up. We've all done stupid crap; and I've definitely learned my lesson.

All you have to do is go to the dealer with your registration and your drivers license and they will order you a new key. It cost about $120 and takes 3 days to get it. You should have 2 keys anyways.

The key will open the door and start it without being programed. Just the remote control wont work until you have it programed.

The flat key (Mercedes term), a key without the remote part, is also available from a dealer and will open and start the car. I paid about $30 for one.

This makes me happy! For $40, I won't waste my time looking for it anymore.
